Hi,
I am purchasing a 55 Eldo Conv and had a quick question. The first 4 digets are 5562. I know the 55 is the year, but I always thought the 62 was the model. I have a Fleetwood before, and it was 5560, for sixty special I assumed.
So, my question is, it is normal for a 55 Eldo to have a serial number 5562..... or should I be suspicous  that something may have been changed, or the car is not a original Eldo ?
Thanks

Mike,

Eldorados were "62" Series cars (except Broughams which were Series 70) until 1959 when their designation was changed to "64". The four digits, 5562 are correct.

Eldorados were part of the Series 62 Lineup.  Only Series 60 Specials (60), Fleetwood 75 Sedans and Limos (75), and Commercial Chassis (86) had different 3rd and 4th digits.

Ralph is correct on the Eldorado Brougham numbers Series 70 (7059X) on 57 and 58

The numbering changed for 59 and 60. Those were (6929) on the 59 and 60's Eldorado Brougham's.

Thank-You for the clarification. It makes sense now, I've owned '55 & 56' series 62 cars, as well as 60 Special models. I also has a 57 Brougham and 59 Conv. I noticed the 3rd & 4th digets were different for the different models, which made me wonder why this  Eldo didn't have different numbers, but I understand now.
Thanks Again to everyone,
M Bankes
