I have a '74 Eldorado and acquired a new temperature gauge for the driver side mirror which had been missing.  I am trying to figure out how the gauge gets attached into the mirror.  The gauge fits in the mirror and has an attachment on the back of the gauge, but I don't know how to make the gauge stay in the mirror.  It doesn't appear to bolt in, nor does it appear to simply screw in.  If anyone knows how this attaches, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

Joe,
The 74 might be different, but the 75-76 thermometer housing is cast into the mirror "stalk" itself.  The thermometer doesn't "attach" to the mirror, it is part of it.

Both of my Eldorados have the optional thermometer in the mirror.  I have seen replacement thermometers for sale on ebay, so there must be a way to remove and replace that thermometer part.

I think it's a press fit.  If you try to put the thermometer in the round opening in the housing it may just press in.  If it does, but easily pops right back out, clean up the inside surface and put a dab of clear silicone in there as an adhesive.

See if that makes sense when you take another look at it.
