Greetings, I heard a very sad story on the radio this morning. A man put his fire place ashes in the trash and overnight embers he thought were out set his garage on fire. He lost his 57 Corvette :(
That go me to thinking again. I am in the middle of a body off restoration of a 40 LaSalle. I had Grundy Insurance but if the car is not drivable they won't insure it. Dose anyone know of an insurance company that will cover at least the parts.

Thanks
Fred P.

American Collectors Insurance is the same way. I am scared to death, as my car's restoration from a fire is almost complete after this side of $30,000 has been dropped into it ($13,000 agreed value at the time plus $17,000 out of my pocket). The insurance company will not raise the agreed value from $750 until they send someone out to take photos, etc., etc. And the restoration shop's insurance does not cover customers' cars; that is in the contract.

Call Hagerty, they have a "Vehicles under active restoration" type of insurance. No idea how much it is or how it works. I saw it on their website. Here is the link:

I have had what I call "garage insurance" on my '35 Cadillac with Hagerty while it was under restoration.  Jim Beard's terminology is undoubtedly more correct.  It was cheap and gave me much peace of mind.

I have Hagerty coverage on 2 cars that are driven and 2 that are in "progress". We have agreed value on both just like the cars I drive. They will raise the value as the project progresses. Of course you have to call to raise the value and the rate goes up accordingly. I feel their rate for coverage on a project car is very reasonable.

Thanks to all that replied. My Insurance agent that carries my business, Commercial auto, home, boat and personal auto is a Hagerty agent. They said nothing of this. I will do a little, on second thought, allot of prodding. Or it might be time to reevaluate my insurance carrier.

Thanks, again

I've dealt directly with Hagerty since I first needed collector car insurance. I've had 1 claim and it was seamless getting it resolved. A couple of phone calls and emails and it was taken care of. No questions about the shop I want to use or their estimate.

I was thinking, what about home owner insurance itself? I've know of people who had cars damages in their yard by falling tree limbs, etc. and home owners Ins. covered it. But check all your options with Home Owners, Hagerty, etc, rates, agreed coverage.

In keeping with not leaving the string unfinished.
I have purchased a comprehensive policy only from Hagerty. I added a Vehicle Under Construction Endorsement and Trailer / Paddock Collision Coverage for transport to and from the body shop. So far I am pleased. The rate was very affordable and I hope and pray I never find out how they pay claims.  Oh no there goes that peace of mind thing again.

Thanks to  all who responded to my original post
