Has anybody had any experience fixing an erratic fuel gauge on a 60
cad?

It depends on what is causing the error.

My problem was solved when I made sure of a proper ground from the sending unit to the frame, back by the tank.

But this was on a '61.

I have had good luck by pullling the cable out from the transmission side and grease it with multi purpose bearing grease and the irratic needle and noise went away. Assuming no gear damage or major cable fraying exists.

Sorry I am such a moron. Had speedometer on the brain this morning!! I did however find as was previously mentioned making sure there is a good ground at the tank sending unit is essential. Pardon my intrusion!!
