I am thinking about purchasing a spare radio for my 1960.  I'd like to have it converted to FM.  I don't care if the dial indicates AM, but I think the stock dash and rear speakers would be OK as long as I can listen to some FM.

The end result desired is a completely stock look with FM.

Anyone else ever get this done or know of a reputable place?

Thanks,

Brian

G'day Brian, I'd go on ebay and buy an fm converter. It plugs into your antenna cable and you can sit it under your original in the glovebox. I used one in my 59 and 60 .

Contact classiccarradiodoctor.com. The owner is Bill Abate. His telephone number is 215 886 5386. I had my 62 Eldorado converted to FM and it works nicely. It even has an auxiliary input. The FM converter does not give stereo sound. I used to have one.

Thanks.

That's great.  He is local to me, judging by the phone number, like 20 minutes away.

Actually found two different radio shops, each about 20 minutes from my house that will convert a complete (but non-working) radio, but they get like $450.00 to install all new AM-FM stereo internals.  A bit pricey, but I am keeping this car for ever and I need some FM.  A completely stock looking radio and the factory speakers will be just enough for me.
