I have a 1940 Cadillac 60 Special that has VIN 6322797 stamped on the frame but no VIN number on the left rear side of the engine block where it should be.  On the right rear of the engine block is stamped the number 9H10159. Can anyone give me help in understanding this?

Thanks

The serial number on the frame is correct for your model and year, so use it for title. The other number is the engine unit number. Starting 1942 it was moved to the right side. The "H" in it tells me you have a 1946 engine. The 9 will tell series and transmission type it came from, but I don't  have that info handy. You can also find the series by getting the engine number . It is just ahead of the right cylinder head on the top of the block.Warren

Thank you Warren.
