Bumper installation 1948 Cadillac

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how best to install newly chrome plated bumpers on a 1948 Cadillac?   Any way to minimize chrome damage when bolting up bumper guards.   I'm concerned that the bumper guards will rub against or damage the bumper chrome finish.

Ed. I have a rechromed front bumper assembly waiting for b.guard installation. Should be straight forward if careful.

Having done a 48 and 49 here is my suggestion....mount bumper guards to bumper first,  then mount bumper irons to bumper, do not make real tight as will have to move bumper l/r to get alignment with fenders.  Tape a rag to fender where bumper will meet fender and tape , heavily, end edge of bumper.  Have a buddy/wife/kid hold one end of bumper while you hold other end and slide bumper irons into "U" of frame.  Place your bolts thru hole in frame and irons and cinch up fairly tight then move bumper r/l to get alignment with fenders.  Remember the rear fenders can be moved in or out by loosening the bottom brace of fender, holes are oblong
