A 1976 Calais, De Ville, Fleetwood Brougham, 75, Eldo or Seville with dark brown vinyl top has a code number on the body number plate under the hood at the right hood hinge (firewall nearer centerline for Seville). Third line, right side:  _ _ T.  Please let me know what it is for the authenticity manual.  Several vinyl top codes do not match paint codes, and 1975-79 vinyl top order codes are letters, while the codes on the body plates are numerals such as "37T" for the 1976 "mahogany" (claret) vinyl top.

Tom,

There’s a list of all 70’s paint, upholstery and accessory codes at: http://www.rrrclc.org/color_database.htm  I created this from Cadillac documents . The only error you might find is a typo.
Also, please send me an e-mail directly. I had a computer software crash and lost my all of Contact List information.

Regards,

Ralph

Thank you, Ralph, but Fisher Body had its own ideas for coding some of the vinyl tops, as well as how to code some of the accessories.  There is considerable difference between Fisher and Cadillac.  I need to "meet" a 1976 car or two with a dark brown top and an owner willing to raise the hood, please.

Would the parts manual help? It lists all the different colors by trim I think. I know its not "real life" though.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I got the answer off a car.

In 1975 Fisher Body and Cadillac Division had a parting of the ways regarding these codes, with Cadillac sticking with letters and Fisher going to numbers to indicate colors.  The parts manual, being by Cadillac Division, is likely to have code letters, but I will check.  The Fisher Body Manuals I have already checked.
