Not to be confused with "cotton," there is something called "cotan" with regard to vinyl interiors and vinyl tops.  What does "cotan" mean? (apparently a long "o" sound to say it)

"Cotan" was a trade name for a white convertible top material that made it's
debu on the '56 T-Bird.  It was reputed to be non-fading and non-shrinking.

However, neither of those claims proved to be true and many needed replacement
after a few short years.

Okay, thank you.

Do you think it's limited to convertible top material?

Hi Tom:

Based on the type of material it is, I believe so.  It probably would not be
suitable for seats or interior, for example.
