Just got a 1976 Seville. Not sure if the fuel injection system is working the way it should be. Fuel pump is pretty loud, and seems the previous owners cut some wires from the computer. Also smell some unburnt fuel.
Heard there are some articles in the Self Starter that explains pretty well how the system works and diagnosing problems. Anyone know which issues would have articles about the EFI? Anyone have those issues that I can buy?

If you want to maintain that car, you need to get the manuals.  I see
EB*Y has 350483742796, also the 76 Cad shop manual is good.  You
can get The ECU internal wiring off my PHOTOBUCKET, several sub albums.

(that is a lower case "L"71, not an upper case "i"71)

I hope wires aren't cut, because you need them all.  There is a vacuum hose
from the ECU to the throttle body.  If there is any vacuum leak, you will be
running too rich.  The ECUs fail a lot, you can get yours tested for postage
here by Rockford, IL.  Do check that the timing chain is tight, you should have
a new one by now; the OEM plastic cam sprocket fails regardless of mileage.
Check vacuum hoses, HEI advance weights/vacuum, and fuel pressure.  In
general catch up any maintenance.

I can email some trouble shooting hints if you send me a message at
bcroe @ juno . com     My 79 Eldo has the same EFI system.  It was used
76-79 on 500, 425, and 350 engines, and people like me have adopted the
350 system to the larger 403 engine.

Another thing these systems were known for is fires.  The o rings between the injectors and fuel rail deteriorate with age and can leak fuel which can if its not your lucky day catch fire.   They are apparently standard orings and I believe even GM still has them.

Its a pretty simple system and Bruce has some updates to solve some of their issues.
73 Eldo convert w/FiTech EFI, over 30 years of ownership and counting
Somewhat recently deceased daily drivers, 80 Eldo Diesel & 90 CDV
And other assorted stuff I keep buying for some reason
