Installing new exhaust manifolds

I am installing new (to the car) exhaust manifolds on my 1930 Cadillac V8 and I am trying to find out what the best method or material (and who sells it) to seal the connection between the Y pipe and the passengers side manifold. It is just two pipes that slide into each other, I would think some type of rope graphite or asbestos?? Any ideas or proven methods are appreciated.

Thanks, Martin Cooke

Martin,
The easiest and best way to connect the manifold pipes is to find a piece of exhaust pipe with an OD that closely matches the ID of the Y pipe connection. You can then use an exhaust pipe expander and expand the pipe to a point where it is a press fit to the Y pipe. Use a good sealer and fit the pipe and manifold together and attach to the engine. I used this method on a '30 V8 and a '31 V12 and they have held up well. Good Luck, Harry
