I am about to mate my engine and gearbox and just checking the parts catalogue
to confirm the correct bolts etc.
Much to my surpise, I discover that on 57 and 58 engines there are supposed to be two spacers
between the crankshaft and flywheel, Group 8.0690, part number 146 8064.
At disassembly, there were no spacers!
Can anybody throw some light on this?
Perhaps with pictures and thickness of the spacers?
Thanks.

Thinking loud now - "flywheel" is for manual transmissions, flywheel flex plate is for automatic transmissions.
Correct?
I was under the impression that there was no manual transmission options for these cars?
So why is there a spare part for something that does not exist?
Someone please educate me.....

In strict terms the flexplate was used from 64 up and really is almost flexible, the hydramatic terminology was flywheel, although we could assume they mean a stick flywheel but that is correct for the auto trans as you say no stick option, sorry about the spacers not sure there.

OK, guys - just found out.
In the workshop manual p. 6-51 is an illustration
where a spacer is seen and mentioned in the text. Just one, not two.
It's a flat, round, about 3/16" thick and goes into the pilot hole cavity in the crankshaft.
Mystery solved.

There are also 4 spacers between the flywheel and the fluid coupling cover; they are about 1.5 mm thick.

Yep, they are a sort of triangular in shape - got those OK.

Hello
Sorry to raise this topic after such a long time, but I've lost these spacers and either need to fab my own or buy a set.

Regarding the triangular flexplate to fluid drive spacer:

Are they critical for spacing (I assume yes)?
Is the actual thickness 1.5mm or is that only a guess ?
Does anyone sell them ?

Thank you in advance
