Working through a few problems. Took the Convertible to a transmission shop to get it to downshift. They have stopped any further troubleshooting until they get a different carb and what they see as a problem.  They measured the compression of all 8 cylinders on a just rebuilt engine. All measure between 105# - 120#.  They think it should be close to 165#.
Any thpoughts on this.

Does anyone know of a place I could buy a rebuilt and tested carburetor (Carter AFB 2952)?

Thanks for your help and advice - Larry McGee

Remember compression readings are dependent on engine cranking speed and whether the throttle was held open.  Your carb is wrong or can't be rebuilt?

How many miles are on the rebuild? It is possible that the rings are not yet seated and that the compression will come up.

Was the engine at operating temp when it was tested? This makes a big difference.

Finally, I would try a different gauge before tearing down anything.
