Can anyone tell me what the second vacuum storage tank is for? Additional storage for power locks?  Thanks Jeremy

I would assume so.  The coffee can on the forewall is for the Tri-Power, and the tank in front of the radiator cradle on the driver's side is for the air ride.  If you are talking about the one down low under the master cylinder area, it's also there on cars without air.

The one deep in the driver's side inner fender well, back by the master cylinder, is vacuum storage for the power brakes. In '61, the tank on the firewall, above the brake booster, was for power door locks (no more tri-power). I don't know if it might have done double-duty for tripower and doors in 1960.
Anyone with a shop manual care to check?
Where is the one you are referring to?

Jim the one that I'm referring to is directly above the main vacuum tank and behind the hood hinge.

Jeremy, I'm sending you via email a word document that has a labeled picture of my 1961 engine compartment. It is referenced for 1961 & 1962 engines, but there should be many similarities with 1960. Let me know if you have any questions.

Got the email. The tank above the booster is actually located to the right side of booster behind the drivers side hood hinge on my 60 Eldo.

Aren't the power door locks electrically operated in 59/60?

Concerning the pic I sent:

The brake vacuum storage tank looks very similar to the one above the master cylinder/brake booster, which is for the door locks. The hose outlets are in different positions. It is off the pic, to the right, where the arrow indicates. Of course, this is for '61, but I think '60 is similar. 1962 does not have this tank. In your original post, you mention the second tank. Which one are you referring to as the first or second? You've gotten my curiousity up.

For '59 the tank above the brake booster is for the Tri-Power.  The tank tucked down under the booster near the fender well lower is for the Brakes.  '59 Door Locks are Electric operated and I be surprised if they switched back to vacuum for '60.

They were vacuum in 1960, and i remember playing with the lock/unlock button in my dad's '64 SDV and they worked about 10 times, then stopped.  I was very scared, thought I broke something...  But I was only7 at the time.

Actually, the shop manual will tell the tale.  Jeremy, I would be shocked if you don't have one.

I bought 2 vacuum tanks from a '60 and think they were mounted in the doors.  I was going to use one for an additional tank in my Brougham system as there is no tank at all, just the brake booster.  The fellow I bought them from said they were for the door lock system.
