There is an unusual movie out, "The Artist" (it's black and white and mostly silent), a period film (1928 - 1934) about a silent film actor, and it has two Cadillacs that are prominently featured.  The first is a 1928 Town Sedan (I think) and the second is (pretty sure) a 1935 convertible four door sedan.  I see there are two models of the C4D owned by CLC members, one 5780 and the other a 671, the first being listed as owned by Steve Brauer (here in St. Louis MO).  I don't think it was a V-16; it lacked the fender spears.  Anyone know the cars that were used in the movie?  The 2nd car is shown at about 2:11 into this trailer.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl7vP3ndik0  Thanks.

The movie hasn't been released here yet (Australia) but I'm looking forward to seeing it and will keep a look out for the Cadillacs.

I went to see "Midnight in Paris" a few months back. It was great to "see" Paris in the 1920's, the streets and again, the cars of that era. It was directed by Woody Allen so a little quirky but gave you a real sense of what it might be like living there.

The car shown in the trailer is a '35 convertible sedan. It has a  "V" windshield so it is not a style 671.
It is a 5780 (5880)  V windshield. By the shape of the front fender it is either an eight or twelve and not a sixteen. There are 3 style 5780 cars in the directory, Steve Brauer's V16 , one in Iowa and one in New York. Of the three 5780 cars listed in the CLC directory, there is no way to tell what engine they have as the V8, V12 and V16 were all available with the 5780 body. The V8 and V12 cars were on the 146 inch wheelbase and the V16 was on a 154" wheelbase.

Good eye, Terry.  I read your comments first and thought, "Who is this knowledgeable person...?"  If you go see it you won't be disappointed; there are a pretty good number of cars in the movie and the two cars mentioned play in a number of scenes.  It is at the Hi Pointe (Clayton... park for free at the bank across McCausland Blvd.) and I think our admission was $5 on a Saturday evening, though the website implies $8.  And I recommend the popcorn, it's really outstanding and not too expensive by current standards... they use real butter and a "large" was more than big enough for the three of us.  http://hi-pointetheatre.com/  Way cheaper than a GN and you won't have to get up out of your seat to accept an award or anything!  LOL!  BTW, talked to your old friend Bill Anderson (P.E.!) and your name came up... we compared war stories!  And nice aqua Fleetwood in the S/S this month!

What was the car owned by the main character, Valentin?

Shame the '35 got wrecked.

Here are some stills from the movie.  I went to see this and will go and see it again when it comes out on DVD.  Great movie and a deserving winner of the Oscar.

If these upload okay, I'll upload more.

Regards, Ross.

Here are another 5 stills. Enjoy (or better still, go and see the movie!).

Great selection, Ross. Thanks.
The conv. sedan has badges on the radiator grille and at the front of the decorative hood grilles, but it's hard to tell from the stills if the car is a V8 or a V12.
The V8 had a yellow background and the V12 a black background.  Since the stills are B&W, no real way to tell at first glance.
I'm leaning towards V12. No reason other than it fits the movie image.

It is a V12.  Look up 1935 370D in www.IMCDb.org , It is shown as used in the artist. It has '32 hubcaps.

The V-12 Cadillac used in "The Artist" is to be auctioned.  I saw this article several weeks ago, but I don't post much here on the CLC Forum so I didn't get around to posting the link.  Sorry if someone beat me to it, but I did do a search to see if that was the case.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/16/automobiles/collectibles/best-car-in-a-supporting-role.html?_r=0

If that link does not work due to the "NY Times" paywall, google:  cadillac v-12 "the artist" auction... and look for the "NY Times" article that comes up.  That should get you around the paywall.

Clicking on the smaller photo in the article will reveal how they did the smashed fender without actually damaging the car.  Very convincing if only viewed for a few seconds on screen.  I was the one in the theater yelling, "NOT THE CADILLAC!" when the gun didn't go off.  But then I was the one saying, "Where's that iceberg, already?" halfway through "Titanic."
