I am trying to find a rubber trunk matt for my 1976 Eldorado.  On Ebay, I found several for a 1976 Eldorado but they are different shapes.  If anyone has a picture of what the factory one would look like, would you post it please?  Thanks

Check out Ebay item #180850052439
This would be correct for Eldorados thru 1978.

That looks like a front floor mat for a rear wheel drive car.  Why would a trunk mat be notched for a transmission hump?

Didn’t the 78 Eldos still have the flat floor like the 68?

Glen,

The item is a trunk mat, not interior floor mat.

That's the correct mat.  The cutout area is for a hump in the trunk floor.

Take a look:

No. the top motor is nowhere in that area.  I never was curious enough to look underneath to see what was there, but since GM never did anything without a reason, I am sure there is a component there that needs the room.

I believe that bump is there because that is where the lines come from the sending unit in the fuel tank.   The sending unit is about in the center of the tank.  The steel lines and electrical lines come out of the top then bend and point forward. At about the edge of the tank they transition to rubber for a short distance before going back to steel along the frame.  I would guess because of the sleek compact styling of the Eldorado they were trying to tuck the tank up as high as they could to keep it out of sight.

The top motor is about the size of and looks like a seat motor.  Its not hydraulic so there is not a tank like most tops have.  Its cable and gear operated like the seats.   Its practically flat against the seat back.  The center passenger would pretty much be against it.
