1959 REPLACEMENT OF HEATER CONTROL VALVE
« on: April 05, 2012, 07:21:33 AM »
Hi everyone, will I need to take out the heater core to replace the heatercontrol valve? And where should that copper pipe be placed?
My valve control cable is coming out in the firewall is this normal location?

Thanks!

Yes you will need to remove the heater core.  I had mine rebuilt when I first got the car, and it still works 20+ years later, so hopefully you will only have to do this once!  :)

Thore, the thin copper pipe attached to the control valve should be on the opposite side of the heater core, in other words on the inside of the car, while the valve itself is on the outside.  I am going through this now with my 57.  The thin tube is held in place with either very fine wire soldered to the fins or a small plastic stake with a hole in the end for the small tube then pushing the stake between the heater core fins.  I can send an attachment if you like.  I am trying to find the parts needed to rebuild my thermostatic valve if you know where I might find this ?

Hi Douglas,

well on the 59 you will find the heater control valve on the innside with the core, nothing is visible in th engine room other than the 2 pipes for the hoses. I bought my new control valve at TA Motor in Luleå (Sweeden) guess they may have what you need as well. Thanks anywhy ;)
