Almost looks like a tissue box cover. The front of one. Maybe from the 40's.

I have a photo of the dash of a 48 hearse which does not have a radio.  Your photo looks very much like the radio delete plate, though it is brown not black.

Yes,  there is hardware on the backside at the piece measures  9.5 x 2.75 inches.  Thank you for the replies. Mike

It is more than likely a radio delete plate from a professional car.  Because the Cadillac crest has been left out in the center, it could well be Hess & Eisenhardt, who in some years tried to block out as much marque identification as they could.
