41 cadilac 346 engine. i have the engine heads off but one of the valves wont open. how can i free it up ? thanks john

I assume you are rotating the engine crankshaft and watching the valves open and close.  If one valve doesn't move, something below the valve head is wrong (broken valve, broken lifter, wiped cam lobe, etc.).  Freeing the valve won't fix any of those.  Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds and valley covers to see what the problem is.

John,
The first thing I'd do is to put a little Marvel Mystery Oil on it...on all of them actually and let it soak in a while.  Then, using your starter or a socket and ratchet on your crank, turn the engine over and see if it loosens up, but you'll want to take off the valley cover (below the intake manifold) and check your springs and stems.  There's most likely something amiss between the cam and the valve stem.  A spring might have broken or a stem might be bent.  Also look for any broken parts in that valley area once you have the covers off.  Hopefully your cam lobe is ok.
