I'm attempting to install the rear spring shackle bushing, shackles and new springs. While screwing the bushing through the frame and on the shackle the shackle pushed the grease fitting out of the bushing end (this is repairable). The shop manual does not speak to this issue. What do I need to do to get the shackle and the bushing to align correctly? Is the bushing worn out? the gremlins of misery have me in a full body embrace -help      P.S. in reference to a part post-I had the brake drums turned. I was told that even though  the drums were a little over they should be OK for awhile.

You have to position your shackle so it does not bottom out in the bush, before you start screwing the bush in, keep about 4 threads of the shackle visible outside the frame line and start the bush in. If it pushed the grease fitting out it would have had no where turn when in action anyway.

Thanks Steve, I'll try the four thread idea. the bushing should not turn in the frame, all movement should be the shackle working within the bushing -is this correct?

Thats correct, the action of the suspension actually screws the shackle in 1/4 turn so if it were too tight or had bottomed out it would have nowhere to go when the car bounces.

Thanks again Steve, problem solved. I have a source for another bushing if need be. I'm thinking the orginal bushing may be woren out but I'll see what I can do with it first.
