So I scored a set of wire rims for $500, knowing full well that they were old and probably in need of some help.  Turns out I was right and two of them need to be "tuned".  Anyone have a good guide on how to do this, or know of anyplace I can go in the new england area to have this done?  So far all the rim straightening shops I've called won't touch them.

thx

Hi... I know this is all the way across the u.s. .. but you might try  Stockton wheel.. stockton ca.1-800-395-9433... they have been there for a 100 years   Gene Harl  clc22406

Thanks Gene - the shipping costs on top of whatever they'd charge... I may as well just buy a brand new set   ;D

I found a local place that charges $95/hr for labor and won't give me an idea of how long it will take lol.. but also found some tuning guides on MG centric websites.  I hope the principle is the same.  I'm working finding an old steering knuckle to setup as a jig so I can try it.

Hank,
Sounds like you have it under control, but in case that falls through, there is a place in Walnut Creek California of all places that has been doing this type of work for decades.  The name is  Rite-Way Wheel Specialists.  (925) 933-4046. Located at  1119 Alpine Rd., just off freeway 680 and Highway 24.  I haven't had work done on spoke wheels there, but they have straightened Alloy Wheels (Peugeot) and I was impressed.  I know their stock and trade is in Wire wheels, working on Jaguar wheels, Boranni's and  other earlier cars.

Probably not of much use to you, but for West Coast folks, this should be a useful contact.
