Brass and gold on Cadillacs?

What all years and models of Cadillacs could be had with brass and gold trim, grills, wheels?

Also, are the grills just painted and the gold trim and wheels just gold chrome plated?

Mike Josephic CLC #3877

Your question is pretty general, but some guidlines:

As far as the 50's cars the "jewelry" was either gold plated or anodized
in the case of aluminum trim (anodizing started in 1956-1957).
Most of the gold plated trim on the earlier 50's cars was on the Eldorados.

If it's painted gold, it's an attempt to do a cheap cover-up job and skip the
plating.

Did you have a particular year in mind?

Mainly wanted to know about the 50s.

Do most chrome platers do gold and anodizing too? How is the comparison in price?
Were the brass grills painted?

Mike Josephic CLC #3877

Some of the better chrome platers also do gold, but not all.

Anodizing is a completely different process so it's usually only done
by firms specializing in that.  However, there are a few exceptions.

As far as painted grills on Caddys of that era, I don't know of any
off hand.

So what process was used for the grills to get their color?

Eldovert

Tex,
The grills were anodized aluminum.

The "gold" fad began with the 1953 models (1953 was Cadillac's "Golden Anniversary").  It ended with the 1958 models.

The gold actually started in 1952 which was the Golden Anniversary of Cadillac, not 1953.
