I have done a lot of research on installing rear glass on an automobile, found conflicting information. Does anyone have experience installing a front or rear windshield on a mid 70s General Motors automobiles?

Appreciate any information.
Thanks,
Allen

G'day Allen,

These windows are held in place by a "glueing" process, and the best place for that is a Windscreen specialist.

There are a couple of steps, and they have the proper stuff to do it.

Both the glass edge and the metal frame have to be "Primed" with a black liquid, and then the adhesive installed, then the glass, and finally the stainless trim pieces.

If the old glass is still in place, you might be in for a rude shock when the glass is removed.   I know I was with mine.

Any body shop will install it for you . Its not hard if you know what your doing. the hardest part will be not destroying the moldings when removing it.
A glass shop should be able to do it for less than $100.00 . I don't advise you to try it yourself ,to much can go wrong.

The glass shop broke the rear window and charged me for the installation of glass and replacement window.

Oh dear, that is bad news, but I am sure that they would have had something in the fine print that absolves them from having to pay for it themselves.

Personally, I have always wondered how tough those rear windows were, seeing as they are actually made in three pieces, that is with the "split" down the middle on the inside.
