Okay-- sad long story short-- I finally managed to get my 66 Cadillac grille back from the shop in So Cal where it has been sitting for over a year.  It looked beautiful when it came back the first time but unfortunately they reassembled it wrong.  Editorial-- Its called a camera and its very easy to use-- TAKE A PICTURE!

So now I have all the parts of the grille back but it needs to be reanodized, polished and correctly assembled.  Anyone have any ideas on who would do quality work and turn it in a reasonable timeframe?  I live in Portland, OR so if there are any shops closer to home I'd sure like it.

I am curious about this subject as I want to have the grill on my 64 CDV re-anodized at some point.  I had a friend that had theirs done at Anobrite (now called King of Trim) a while back and were pleased but was very expensive.  There website lists a 5 to 6 week average turnaround time.  Since they are in So Cal I'm wondering if this is who you had previously went with or if anyone else has feedback on their service or others to recommend.

Here is their contact info:

My friend used Anobrite which is now called King of Trim.

Sean,

You may want to contact Industrial Metal Plating, Reading PA 610-374-5107, ask for Jamey Maack. They did all the bright aluminum for my Brougham with beautiful results and they were great to work with. It’s a batch process with one charge for as many pieces as fit in the tank……. Here’s the bad news: you’ll have to disassemble the grille regardless of who does the anodizing. Otherwise there can be some staining at the joins due to residual chemicals. If the parts are corroded or pitted, you should have them buffed before anodizing. The better the finish you start with, the better the results.

The process is known as Bright Anodizing or Bright Dip Anodizing. The parts are first treated in an electro-chemical polishing process that levels and smoothes the surface increasing the reflectivity. The parts are then anodized â€" they are made the anode of an electro-chemical bath - which produces an tenacious oxide coat on  the surface to the aluminum. The oxide layer is tough and hard, but only several microns thick. Depending on the chemicals and process parameters used, the coating can be clear (think of it as clear coat) or colored by the addition of pigments (think gold Sabres)

Ralph:

Did they reassemble the grille for you or did you have to put it together.  I remember the grille originally was crimped together and it was pretty sturdy.  When I got it back the first time, they told me they couldn't re-crimp it so they tack welded it together in the location where the crimps were.  Whoever I take it to-- I want them to reassemble it so I can just pop it on the car and be done with it.

Jason:

King of Tim was not the place that was doing the work.  It was a bumper shop in Lynwood (near Compton).  Perhaps if it had gone to the King it would have been done right the first time!

Sean,

Unfortunately they don’t. I took mine apart, restored the bars then had them anodized and put it together.
