Any advice on removing the steering column?  I will be repainting it and dash soon.. don't really want to chance getting paint on my $6,000 interior!

As I remember, the steering column must come out underneath the car. So the car must be elevated to do that. I don't think it can be removed thru the engine compartment with the engine in place.

My advice ... mask very well!

The gearbox and steering column come out as a unit from the bottom.  This is possible with the engine in place, but involves also removing the steering wheel, shift quadrant & linkage, wiring, etc.  It is one of those times to compare degree of difficulty between the methods.  Given you need to do both interior and presumably the engine side as well, it may be the better call to pull it.  I can copy the manual section for this if you need it - let me know.  Good luck!
