Hi,  I'm trying to fix some holes in the floor of my 1957 Biarritz.  Does anyone know the thickness of the sheet metal that I would need?

Thanks.

Quentin Hall

Unfortunately I am metric not imperial I know that on my 57 Biarritz the floors were about 1mm.  I always like to use 1.2mm zincaneal for my floors as it gives good corrosion resistance and also has a bit more rigidity and still can be formed. If you mig it is fine but to tig it you may need to remove the coating on the weld seam. Q

I believe the standard for floors of that era is 18 guage, which is .049
inches or 1.25 milimeters.  That's what I bought a few sheets of to do my
'55 Caddy. Note that a dime is one milimeter.

That's heavy stuff and not easy to work with except for small
patches.

Don't forget that the folded creases in the floor add strength to the floor
and prevent the "bouncy" or bending / flexing that would otherwise occur.

After seeing that making my own floor was not really practical, I got a good
floor from a Texas parts car.  It already had every crease and bend in it.
That was the way to go.  I also needed the complete trunk which I also
purchased from the same car.

See Honest John's Caddy parts or one of the other people with large
scrapyards.  John is in Texas and a CLC member.

Good luck,

Mike
