Hi
I would highly recommend Val Hedworth from Macon, Missouri. I have a 53 Caddy 331 that for a while gave me nothing but idle and exceleration problems. After I found a junk Quadrajet with the right Cadillac number, I had Val work his magic on it. When I got it back it looked like new. I droped it back on the manifold and almost had to make no adjustments. Car runs perfect.   Joe T

I second Daytona Parts Co.  FLAWLESS work, quick turnaround, flow-tested and adjusted and cosmetically beautifully cleaned and restored.

DAN:  I suggest you get in touch with Hobb's Carburetor Shop in Pelham, NH, tel # 1-603-635-2415. They are one of the best you're going to get to repair or buy a rebuilt carb. I have used them and found them to be very fair and knowledgeable in their work.  EAM

As has already been indicated, one cannot go wrong by using Daytona Parts Co.  I was pleased, albeit all I did was buy a rebuild kit, and did the work myself.

^^ What Dave said.  Depending on the year, they can be stupid-simple to work on (I may be kind of tainted, as I do have some experience with them).  If it's a mid-70's or earlier carburetor, and you don't need throttle-plate bushings installed (it's not a common thing, but some do need it), then get a kit and DIY.  There are a couple of plugs on the bottom of the center section that may need to be epoxied, but go slow and don't make a big mess with it, and you can fix it yourself.  The spots needing epoxy have been discussed in another post on this forum just a few months ago.

Here is a link to a write-up, with photos, of the rebuild I did on my Rochester 4-Jet -

It will give you an idea of what all is involved in the process.

I had a good experience with the Barker Gang Garage:

http://quadrajetcarburetors.com/quadrajet-rebuilding-service.html

Only bug/feature is they're at high elevation, so when they tune them and test them it's in thin air, and it would need to be retuned for your elevation.  I live near Denver so I didn't have to do that.

Well, with Hobbs Carubretors only 11 miles away I took my carb there.  Next day it was done and back on the car.  Runs much better.

Put in new shft bushings, choke pull off, etc, etc, $125.

There arec $400 rebuilders out there with 6 months leadtaimes, and the Daytona Parts Co did say they would bush the base plate and return in 1 day with a rebuild kit, but when Hobbs quoted me, I just had to try him.

I had planned to do the rebuild, but with the bushings and kit added up this was something I had to try.

He is not a siphisticated shop- for example, Cliffs High Performance claims to fix 41 design flaws in the carb, but I also did n't want to wait 6 months. :)

So, happy for now.  Thanks for the different inputs.

I did not know about Hobbs in NH. I'm only 1/2 hour from Calais, ME in NB and I was going to send my Carter AFB to Calgary AB. Now I'll just take it to Maine and send it from there.
