Why is this an opening?

On the upper dash radio bezel, in the far right corner there is a section of the bezel that is removable. On all of the '59 cars that I've seen, there has never been anything in there other than the plate.

Would anyone know or have seen something in this position? The FSM doesn't show anything as standard or anything optional listed for that spot.

Wonder if it could have been an initial location for the A/C outlet, before they decided on the bottom-of-dash version?

I sent this to a long time friend of mine too. His father was a pattern maker and he said that with that type of curve, it would be near impossible to make it in a complete section.

Bruce, I thought of the A/C outlet too. But that would throw everything off balance with the set up of the left side of the dash.
