I managed to get a little Route 66 in before the cold weather came through. I live about 5-10 min. from a pretty unspoiled section in rural SW Missouri. It's not very touristy, which is nice, and it has some original buildings a few of which have been restored. These shots were at Spencer, which really isn't a town anymore. It was pretty queit, I think we saw one farm truck come through the whole time my wife and I were taking pictures. Just east of here there is a restored Sinclair station. Anyone been through? I saw there was a cruise near here (Joplin) in 2007. I'd love to be part of any upcoming cruises; wish there was a region down here.  :)

Hello Brian

Beautiful scenic area for touring in that attractive 1967 Cadillac around Spencer, Missouri. I passed through there a few years ago on a bike. It was a nice ride.

You have a good idea to start a region in your area. I suggest you
(1) Contact Area Region Directors
A. Norman Kressman
B. Kurt Fowler
(2) Place an ad in the major newspaper for Cadillac and LaSalle owners
(3) Prepare for some hard work that will be VERY fulfilling.

I look forward to hearing an update from you at our Grand National in Boston next summer.
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Brian,

We need to get our 67 Sixty Specials together for a good cruise sometime.  Mine has seen most of 66 from here to Tulsa.

In '07, I took my '91 Brougham to my sister's in Bristow, OK.  I made sure to take one day to travel the Mother Road from there to Tulsa.  While I didn't get to drive much of it at all, it was well worth it.  There's one stretch around Sapulpa where the true 66 still lies.  I even brought some concrete pebbles from the edge of the road home with me.  They're with my bricks from the Clark plant.

One of my Bucket List items is to really do the entire 66 trip.

Thanks for the information C.R., I would be happy to put in the extra work in to form a region in the Ozarks. I'm going to get a plan together, and see if I can't gain enough members by spring to form a region.

Jim- I'm out that general direction on occasion (my wife likes the casinos), I'd love to see your Sixty Special sometime! If you're ever out this way, message me and you're welcome to drop by.  :)

Walter- I'd also like to travel the entire route someday, it would be worth the gas $! Just curious, how did you get some bricks from Clark? That's quite a keepsake!

My 66 plan is to take the car to Chicago on the train, start there and then take the PCH up through California and come back with the car on the train.  Dream, dream, dream...

The Clark brick story--In 2002, I did kick one item off the BL.  Myself and a friend drove our cars "back home" for Grand Nationals in Detroit.  I took my '57 CDV and he took his '88 Brougham.  One evening, we ventured out to Clark for photos with the cars.  Of course, the buildings were long gone but parts of the footer were still there.  Not willing to miss a once in a lifetime opportunity, we filled our wash buckets with as many loose bricks from the old Final Assembly building as we could.

Hard to believe that was over 10 years ago.

We traveled Route 66 from Oklahoma City to California in September in a 2009 DTS.  i have traveled it many times from OKC to California.  My first trip from California to Oklahoma was in 1970 in a new coupe de ville.  I made several short trips in the 1960's with my parents in Buicks.  My dream is to travel from OKC to California in a 1967 to 1970 coupe de ville.

In 1995 I drove from OKC to Los Angeles in a 1970 DeVille Convertible.  We took as much old 66 as possible and that was a fun trip in that car.

If you are into Route 66, I recommend looking into the book Route 66, The People, The Places the Dream by Sal Santoro & Bob Walton.  A book written by two Cadillac Guys about their 38 day trip on the mother road in Bob's 1968 Cadillac Convertible.

Check it out!!

My first trip from California to Oklahoma was in 1970.
I will show my age here; my first trip on U.S. 66 was fro   Chicago to L.A. in 1958.  The car, a '57 Olds 98!

Dave,  Do you have any photos from that trip?  Being a 50s Olds (shh don't tell anyone lol) enthusiast as well, that would be great to see.

Dave, that must have been a great trip!  A '57 Olds 98 was about as close to a Cadillac you could get!

Our first GM car was a new 1956 Olds 88, I love Oldsmobiles from the 50's, 60's and 70's, I would love to see pictures from that trip.  I have a 1976 Olds 98 Regency I purchased new in November of 1975.

In fact, I do have pics from the 1958 trip in the ol' family photo album.  I am sure they include  shots of the '57 Olds in the parking lot of some original/must see tourist trap on the real Rte.66.

Any such photos are not accessible by me right now as I am on the read and in Phoenix at the moment.  If there is a "real interest," I can check on my return home the first of the month.
