I have a 1937 4 door sedan model 5019 .It last ran in 1978. I have got it running and it runs great but the transmission makes a noise in neutral. Push in the clutch and the noise stops. It sounds like two gears are just starting to mesh. If you move the shift lever around a little with the clutch out the noise will change some . I changed the 90 w oil but it did not help. Is there an additive to free things up or some adjustment needed ?  M Robinson

That could be the clutch release bearing rattling or the bearing on the first motion input shaft, more likely the later. No cure for that but replacement. There is no adjustment to the box, its held in positive mesh by the forks. Test drive is the answer, Input bearings will give a real grumble whereas clutch bearings rattle as theres no load on them under transition.

Thanks for the help. The clutch release bearing is good. Test drive shows the noise in all gears. The input shaft bearing is possibly the problem. I will pull the tranny and check it out. Thanks again. Mike Robinson
