1941 Cadillac Vin Location- Engine

I recently found the buyer of the engine that was in my 41 Cad 6127D.  I didn't record the serial number when I sold it, and I have put a Camaro front clip in the Car. I didn't know about the serial number on the frame, and I no longer have that section. So I have no record of the vehicle number.
I am attaching a picture of the engine showing where the new owner looked. No number there.  Is this the correct location on the engine?

Curly, thats a later block, you can tell by the squareness of the block casting, its post war so the engine number is on the front right hand side in front that bank of cylinders, but it will not be the correct number for your year, without that frame number you have a problem.

My 1941 had such a problem. If you need to register the car, go to the license branch on a slow () day, and ask how you can legally pick a # and where and how to attach it to the car. You will also probably have to have the car inspected by a state police officer as part of the process. Be prepared to be humble, patient, and cooperative, and you should be able to get the job done. I think I was able to use one of the #s on the cowl plate. (Such as 6127D).

Some of the BMV people love to throw their weight around. My yongest grandson lost his wallet that had his beginner's permit in it, and when my daughter took him to the branch to get it replaced, the head clerk yelled at him, "I TOLD you not to lose this. You simply have to find it. After a month of searching, and a couple of further visits with the same negative results, I told my daughter to go to the neighboring county, and get it replaced there. They had no problem at all. So, ask politely, and do what they ask. Good luck.

Barry, thanks for the reply. I have the car titled and registered already. I was wanting to get the packet from GM with info about my cars build date and original destination. Not going to  happen now, but no big deal. I was just curious.

Regarding your DMV experience, I did have a bit of worry when I went to register the car, I had the title but hadn't renewed the registration for something like 10 years or so.  The car was out of the system and for a short time I thought they were going to give me a hassle. Turns out they just weren't sure how to handle it. They wound up giving me a new license plate and registered the car with no penaltys.
