what is correct finish for a 1960 grille ?

mine looks like it has lost its shine... any tips on how to pull it apart to re-finish it ?

The Tassie Devil(le)

G'day Hayden,

I am sure that they were Anodised clear.

Don't try and rub them too hard with any abrasive that could rub through the Anodising, or you will have to strip them down completely and have every part, and there are lots of parts, re-done.

When pulling apart, take lots of pictures, measurements and notes, and be very careful removing the bullets.

I've had excellent results with #0000 steel wool followed by Meguiar's All Metal Polish. May want to keep a toothbrush handy as well. Never disassembled a grille to do it though.

If the metal surface is decent I too have had excellent results with the #oooo steel wool and meguires
polish plus using the foam power ball that fits on the drill. After having taken apart my 59 grill and polishing every piece I would try the easier method first. Good luck!

This sounds  wierd, and I have yet to try it, but a long-time '60 owner swears by using repeated applications of Armor-All (yes, that Armor-All). He's been using it for years, and claims the grill gets better with each application over time.
