What is the best way to find out vintage caddy parts fit. I have some distributors & dimmer switch, coils, etc. My Dad worked for Cullerton Cadillac in Brookfield, Illinois.
Lots of this is still in orginal boxes, but when I look it up on the net, it says obsolete. I whet to several sights, some say they fit all makes of cars . Is the possible?

You need to find someone with the old parts interchange books.  How much stuff are you talking about.  A box full or a garage full?

I have my Dad's old caddy ( about 60) manuals.  I'm talking about maybe 6 laundry baskets full, but there were some bearings & I was told if there is any rust They are no good

I also have some 1956 chrome, 1 mirror, & hood emblem, 5, 1956 hubcaps 1960 rear bumper  and some other hubcaps I don't know the year on.

I'm looking for hubcaps to my 57, and I'm also ready to buy parts from this year. You should take a few pictures

Will the 56 fit the 57?

Roger Zimmermann

Baggy, if you list the part numbers you have with the group number and a quick description of the content, you will certainly get some responses. Many people here (myself included) have parts books.

Baggy,
Do you have any 6 volt coils with 3 studs on the bottom side of them?

I know I have some coils, I will try to get some part #'s on here this weekend. Pardon my ignorance but what is a group# is that the part #?

Roger Zimmermann

The various elements forming a car are arranged in groups. For example, engine is group 8.000 in the old Cadillac designation; brakes are group 4.000 and it goes further, like, say, wheel cylinder repair kit is group 4.5750. Consolidated GM groups are arranged differently, but it's the same system. The group is usually printed on the box of the part, together with the part number.

Within a span of years group numbers never changed.  Standard size pistons for example were group number 8.2157.  Each oversize of piston had a different group number.  That defines the subject but the part numbers were specific to each different piston built for the various engines during the period.  This system would allow the parts man to memorize the numbers without them changing every year or at least get close.  The parts books are organized by the group numbers.  You just turn to the group number and look down the list of different models to find the part number which was unique to each part.

It's normal to find different part numbers on Delco Remy boxes. One is the Delco type, one is the GM number and the other is the Delco Remy part number.

This is part of the daunting task  I'm Talking about. How do I identify all these carburetor gaskets? Would I be better to sell the whole lot. The cabinet is probably worth more than any of it. Thanks, for any info!

R Schroeder

For my 2 cents, I would say; here it is make an offer. With todays gas I dont know how much of those could be used. Also they are not Gm.
I dont think they are worth the time to figure out .
Gm parts would be worth more to you.
