As I near the end of my restoration I have a few questions about the trunk.

How is the trunk supposed to be finished regarding the flat and vertical surfaces. Carpet or broadcloth on the flat surfaces ??

The sides and front are made of ???

Anything else I should know about the trunk??

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I don't think there was ever any carpet in the trunks Gary, when I restored my 41 there was a particular type of herringbone cloth available attached to a sort of tared board and it was a different pattern for many different  years.
I bought mine from Bobs Automobila as Buick uses a similar pattern. look under this listing on Bobs site and see if it matches, or perhaps SMS fabrics have the exact one.

I've posted a photo of my ex-'47 Sedanette, now residing in Belgium.
The trunk carpet and bulkhead were still original but the side panels were gone so
I added the side panels I think from Lebaron-Bonney and trimmed them to match the shape of the sides. I never
got around to serging the outer edges with vinyl welting which is how I think the original would have been.
The original board had a textured finish but I could not locate that for the sides so the replacements I added at least gave it a "more finished" appearance.

Gary -

My 1942 67 still has the original (albeit, well worn) trunk lining - it is a bit different from the ones above - more of a "burlap" textured lining.  My car is backed into the garage, and the trunk is full of misc. parts, but I will try to take a look tonight and see if I can get a picture for you - like I say, it is well worn and may not be very representative of what it should really look like, but it might help give you an idea.
