I am trying to remove the headlight mechanism  from my dash board so that I can refinish it. I got the knob that you pull out off but I can not seem to figure out how to remove the chrome bezel on the front and mechanism actual from the behind the dash. Please help I am almost ready to get this thing finish wired and on the road. This is holding me up  ;) Thanks

I presume you mean the headlight switch??  It was a long time ago but as I remember the chrome bezel is threaded onto the switch, the switch is in a slot to keep it from turning.

Now that you have removed the switch knob and the shaft it is attached to, as Steve said, the bezel screws into the switch assembly. The bezel may have a slot for a screwdriver or it may have a recessed internal hex requiring an allen wrench. After the bezel is unscrewed the switch is free to move. Be gentle when moving the switch, especially if the wiring and insulation is old and brittle.

So whats the trick to getting that bezel off? I cant seem to grab on to it anywhere and it wont budge by hand. I do not see any access for a set screw or anything to assist in the removal of the bezel. That back part is in little slots to keep it from moving. So it seems if I get that bezel off, I'm in the clear

Study the inside of the hole where the shaft passes through, you may see inside were you fit the Allen wrench as Bob said.

This picture might help. This is a 47 switch but same type bezel as the 41. Insert the Allen wrench and turn left and the bezel will unscrew.    Bill
