Would like to know if the 1985convertible were produced in GM factory or did they have them produced out of the factory?   If so what factory actually made the convertibles.

Dale,

ASC is American Sunroof Corp.  They took 2300 Eldorado Biarritz's in 1984 and 2300 Eldorado Biarritz's in 1985 and cut off the tops and installed a "factory" conversion on these cars.  They also beefed up the frames, added additional support in the front radiator cradle areas and installed operating rear quarter windows.

The cars had a different VIN designation and were sold new through Cadillac Dealers, so they are considered "Factory Convertibles".  GM used outside vendors for lots of sub assemblies, and they still do.

ASC also installed the Biarritz package on 76/77/and 78 Eldorado Coupes.  These cars were Eldorado Coupes with some modification to the interiors, rear window trim, special vinyl roofs and wide chrome moldings.

I have owned several of the 84/85 cars that you asked about, and currently own one.  I also have two Hess and Eisenhardt conversion Eldorado convertibles, a 1980 and a 1985.  The cars are VERY different from the ACS cars.

Brian, which do you like better and why, the H&E or ASC conversions?
