Hi All,

Does anyone know if the wheels found on a 1979 Eldorado is the same as those found on a 1982-1985 Eldorado Touring coupe?

I have a lead on a set of touring coupe wheels, but I would prefer the capped look on my Seville so I'm wondering if I just need to find the caps to snap on, or if the design was totally different.

Attached are some pics.

Thanks!

They sure do look the same to me.

A look in the illustrated parts book would be a real help here.

I bought an NOS wheel in the box on ebay a few months ago and here is the info from the listing:

ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL MADE IN USA

THESE NUMBERS ARE STAMPED ON WHEEL-BJ 0382 or SJ238

THIS NUMBER IS CAST ON THE WHEEL- 1625924 (GM Part number?)

If the Touring CP center caps are really nice I would be interested in buying them.  I think the lugs are special too so make sure you get them as well.

Good Luck,

1979 through 1985 Eldorados were all the same chassis, so the wheels should fit any year.

Fitting is not the question.
They made Eldo and Seville alloy wheels that had a center cap that covers the lugs.
The Touring Coupe wheels had exposed lugs with a very small center cap.
What he wants to know is if Touring Coupe wheels will accept the larger cap because that's the look he wants.

The two photos shown look the same to me but matching up a larger cap and trying it on tgd wheel is one way to know. If the part numbers are the same, that's another way.

To make it more confusing there were other variations of turbine style wheels, and the Touring Coupe wheels came with grey paint on sons years and black on other years.

They will bolt on any 79-85 Eldo or Seville but its the difference in the centers that matter.

Hi Brian,

Good call on the parts book, I didn't think to look and I have one covering 1976-1983.  I took a look and they are different.

Thank for posting the EBay set.  Those are the ones I really wanted so I've placed a bid.

Out of curiosity, what tire size are members using now?  I believe 225/70/15 was the original size with the touring package and no one seems to make this in a whitewall.

Thanks!

Those tires might be tough to find.  My car came from the factory with Goodyear raised white letter tires.  I will probably go with Goodrich Radial T/A's as they have the right look.

If I were you, I would grab those wheels right now for the $200.00 buy it now.  Once the reserve is met, the buy it now option goes away, and you may have competition on the bidding.  $50.00 each is a great price on these.

The car I have is an 85 Eldorado Touring Coupe that was made into a convertible by Hess & Eisenhardt.  The story I got was that the person that bought it new worked for Cadillac in fleet sales and dealt with mainly funeral cars, limo's hearses and flower cars for the dealership he worked at.

He had a good working relationship with Hess & Eisenhardt and he sent them the car for the conversion.  I have all of the original purchase papers and a letter from H & E.

So as far as rare custom convertibles, this one is as rare as it gets.  I can only find 2 others and they are no longer stock, interiors changed, wheels changed, etc.

Mine is in the paint shop getting a bare metal repaint in the original Bordeaux Red and has tan interior with a white top.  The top is new also.

I'm anxious to get it back from the paint shop because i have to put all of the trim, quarter windows, and interior back in it.  I'd rather do that work myself.

Hey Brian,

I won the wheels, they end up at about $72 a piece with shipping.  Thanks again for pointing them out.

I love E-body convertibles and you have one rare car, especially since it's a H&E conversion and a Touring Coupe.  Love the colour, Bordeaux Red, very elegant.  I've got an 83 Buick Riviera Convertible as well as my Cadillac's.  Just bought some quarter window seals off E-bay that I need to install.  I hope they reproduce more weather stripping for these cars soon as mine are showing its age.

Are you replacing the flex track for the quarter windows while everything is out of the car?  I'm curious how easy it is.

Thanks!

Hess & Eisenhardt went a different way with the power quarter windows.  They used a regular motor and geared regulator, not the nylon tape.  So if I get the windows back in and lined up it will be a miracle, even though I marked the bolt locations with spray paint.

The rear windows on my 80 H & E are way out of adjustment, so this will give me good practice and reference.

Good luck with the wheels.
