What is the correct way for the air intake hose to connect at the core support?  My car came with the oval knockout removed and the hose stuck thru, retained by a couple of loops of safety wire thru holes in the core support.  Just doesn't seem to be elegant enough engineering to be what the factory intended!

Thanks!

1941 was the first year that Cadillac ducted the fresh ait through the engine compartment. I imagine that, since the intake was not very visible, they simply fed the defroster duct hose into the radiator shroud, and nobody would ever care or even notice.

I sort of felt the same way, when I bought my 41-60SF in 1956. But that was the way every one was done after that, so I suppose that one should just let it be, and enjoy he car.

Thanks Doug.  Given the amount of effort applied to so many other minor details, I had expected otherwise.  Guess they figured that squeezing the tube to fit in an oval opening was retention enough.  I am all for enjoying the car - right now I still need to get it back together.

Bruce Berghoff sent me two 3" pipes when he sent me the attachment for the
Ventilating Defrosting Heater. One end is flattened slightly, and I wondered if it were used to attach things down on the grill cradle end. Now what I have to do is wonder whether or not they still used the rubber gasket on the firewall where the 3" pipe is going to come through. As mentioned on the previous post, it will be a force fit, as the "hole" in the new gasket is slightly less than 3".

Just in case anyone needs the information, according to the Master Parts Book, the length of the flexible tubing is 23". I don't believe it mentioned whether or not this is the length for both front and back pieces or not.

Penn Lenson confirmed that what Bruce sent me is correct for 1941. I have an article about it pending for the S/S.

Thanks Barry, I will get in touch with Bruce for that part (need to see how my steering wheel is doing anyway!).  The cutout in the core support is definitely oval, so that matches your description of a flattened pipe.  The 23" length is great info.
