any you guys or girls know how to remove the ends of the gear shifter & turn signal .are they pressed on or screwed on ?  1960 eldorado   thanks

Walter Youshock

They're pressed on.  If they're the original plastic, be careful.  Best way I hear to remove them is to gently heat the chromed arms with a heat gun and carefully pull the knob off.  To reinstall, warm the plastic in a pan of warm water.

What I do is when I do when restoring these is to Machine & polish out of solid plastic you can get different colored plastics for machining or if you are getting you wheel recast ask them to cast enough so you can machine them. If you are able you can also machine new ends & chrome them.
I thread the shafts & the chrome & plastic ends & screw them together.
Be carefull of the shafts if Rechroming where the ends attach the treaded end on the indicator & the pin hole on the gear leaver (Build up of Copper will make it impossible for these areas to fit properly again).
I have gone through the exercise of buying repos only to find that they just don't fit properly the only things I used out of the repos sets was the small Chrome Collars. Also remember on the gear leaver to put the large Collum Collar on before the end.
Hope this helps a little.

I bought the reproduction ones from McVeys and painted them to match and they worked very well.

I too have a repo gear shift knob.  How do I go about getting the top chromed cap to stay on?

A couple small drops of super glue (Locktite Gel is my favorite) will
nicely do the job.
