Picture(s) or diagram available ?
When I bought my 40-60S about 1969, the original battery box was already a relic of the original.
The second owner had a section of marine plywood installed as a baseplate & pop riveted a series of wide straps in to cradle the battery.
Because the 60 Specials' battery box mounts under the right front fender near the spare tire well, there are several strange angles in the box.
Has anyone taken pictures of a complete 60S box... in or out of their car?
Or, has anybody done a measured drawing of the box that they could scan and email to me?
I will have use of an old sheet metal brake that will handle 14-16ga metal stock, if I know the accurate dimensions and angles. [Is there a difference between the side mounted and 5 wheel cars' boxes? What did the original hold-down strap look like? Any differences between '38, '39, '40, '41 Sixty Specials... especially with a very early 1940? ]
Any help would be appreciated...

I have a good 41 battery box for my 60S that could be measured IF it is what you need for a 40 60S. Mounting location sounds same, but not sure if side mounts drive a difference, etc.  the box is pretty much a rectangular shape with no strange angles.

There are aftermarket sources for the 41 version, including the hold down. McVeys is one option, AllCads is another, there may be others.

Hope this helps some.

According to my 35-55 Master parts List, the 1940 Series 52, 62 and 72 had one kind of battery box, the '40 Series 60S had a 2nd type and the '40 Series 75 and 90 had a 3rd type.  1941 thru 47 had a 4th type.

Cadillac also describes a "Battery Cover" which I assume is the hold-down frame.  This was the same from '39 to '49.

Larry,

I have the end pieces that mount to the frame if that is of help.  The hold down is the same as a 41 so the repo from McVey's works.  Email me at brad@ipsengarage.com

Back when Cadillac still had original parts for those cars (the late fifties).  I installed one of them in my '41 convertible coupe, and it was in it from 1960 through 2011. By that time, it needed replacement. The car was in a paint shop, and I was upgrading it as much as I could. I was installing a stainless exhaust system, stainless brake lines, silicone brake fluid, and I even had a guy in this area reproduce the deteriorated battery box in stainless steel.

I kept the old battery box, in case it was to be duplicated by someone in the future. I also know that if I ever loaned it to anyone, I'd never see it again (Anyone ever loan parts???)

If you might want, I could put you in touch with he guy  who did mine. He hasn't been in good health, but he might be able to do another.

PM me, and I'll give you his number.
