1979 DeVille and Fleetwood paint options

I have a couple of questions maybe someone can answer as there are quite a few on here that seem very familiar with this year.  I have a brouchure from the dealer that says there were 7 different two tone combinations available for 1979.  I have seen a two tone blue Fleetwood, two tone green DeVille, and a few black and silver Coupe DeVilles.  What other colors where available and how rare are they?  The black and silver is my favorite and one of my dream cars.  The few that I have seen also had black and silver leather with red piping.  Surely that edition was different than the others as the other two I have seen did not have a special interior.  I think I have seen it referred to as a spring edition or something but have never seen any documentation to back that up.  I guess my ultimate 79 would be a black and silver Coupe with silver d'elegance interior and I don't even know if they made any.

I know for a  fact that there was a red and white combination available.  I think this combo is very rare.  Not sure, but I think there was a two tone "brown" also available.  I think one of these colors would have been "cedar".

The two tones combos that I can recall for 1979 were:

Dark blue (Crater Lake Blue) over dove gray

Atlantis Aqua Firemist over Biscayne Aqua Firemist

Dark Blue (Crater Lake) over light blue metallic 

Dark brown over Light Cedar Firemist

Black over Silver:  IIRC- Black over Silver was only used on the Seville Elegante but I could be mistaken on that point.

The Coupe deVille with two tone black & grey leather with red piping you refer to was a special model called the "de Marchand" which had been discussed here sometime ago. I forget the specifics but a couple routine searches will probably have the answers.

Awesome pictures David but I am not sure about that two tone Phaeton.  I know the lower color and top are correct but have never seen one painted two tone like that one.   Back in the 80s I once saw a copper Phaeton diesel sedan driving on the street.  How rare was that one.

Hi Greg.   Yeah, the Phaeton is questionable.   I'd like to see the body plate on it.  I suspect the brown was added later.  Note how the wheel centers are brown too.

The others I have all seen a few of.

1) Saxony Red and Cotillion White.
2) Atlantis Aqua and Biscayne Aqua Firemist.
3) Sable Black and Pottery Gold Firemist.
4) Crater Lake blue and Norfolk Grey.
5) Crater Lake blue and Cerulean blue firemist.

and I've only seen one of the Crater Lake blue and Norfolk Grey ones.    I've seen a few of the Crater Lake blue and Cerulean blue firemist ones.

I believe the Sable Black and Slate Firemist were only the special editions:  D'Marchand & Chesapeake Editions.

Also, I am not counting the Seville Elegantes.  They were listed as only available in Slate Firemist and Sable Black in 79.   But I have seen a few in Red Cedar over Cedar Firemist.

Unrelated question:  Does anyone know whether the d'Marchand trim option a regional offering?  I have heard of that option recently, but never saw any of them "back in the day".

There is this photo of one new at the Chicago auto show.   I've only heard of them referred as the D'Marchand editions. 

I've never come across any factory literature on this option package.   Yet there it is listed on the window sticker.



The window sticker lists it as such with a Seattle, Washington destination.   So it wasn't a Chicago edition as some people had earlier mention.

I would have two-toned my Fleetwood (Cedar Fire mist/Dark Cedar) when I repainted it, but I have the stainless "pin-stripe" and there was no way to continue it on to the tail lamp housing. Also, "technically", I don't think it was a valid combination except on the Seville. Richard, you need to bring at least one of your low mile '79s to the show this year. I believe you said the two-tone was "worn-out" with 30K on it. And the platinum still new at 5K? Regards, BW.

I always loved the D'Marchand option.  I had the car in these pictures, but when my father passed away I had to make a few quick decisions and I let it go.  It's the Hess and Eisenhart Le Cabriolet.  A friend has it and should he decide to sell he knows we'll have to talk.
