Can someone explain the details of the Cadillac Hood Crest from the early 40's please?

Joe:

The '41 Cadillac hood crest came from the sketches for the '41 Cadillacs by GM stylist Art Ross, who worked for William Mitchell. These sketches can be found on page 14 of the 1991 Self-Starter Annual in an article by Bud Juneau. It was referred to as an "Egyptian" hood emblem because of its design in the article.

Thanks Terry.  Will the article give detail of the badge itself, ie, what appears to be birds and the 7 or eight circles on top which appear to be a crown, etc.  How and where might I find the article?

I don't know if Lars still has some 1991 annuals. I farmed this out to several authors as one of the last things of my Presidency on the 50th Anniversary of the 1941 Cadillac. It has Al Lindeman's totally original 1941 Cadillac convertible coupe on the cover. If you look for one on eBay, try to get one with the reprinted loose items we included. (Clock tag, Heater tags, Price/Accessory booklet, Dash board info tag that went on the rear view mirror.) The birds are merlots. Medieval fictional birds that are legless. Various amount of the "balls" on the crown have been used over the years, generally the number of them is appropriate to the esthetics of the shield.
