The stock valley pan has a vented cap with a hose that connects to a standard parts store PCV valve, which then connects to the carb.  The front timing cover has a ventilated cap on the oil filler neck.  Stock valley pan cover is mangled and looks like garbage.  I would like to replace it with one of the nice cast aluminum covers (made by Moon and a couple other companies).

My question is this:  None of them include a vent for PCV.  They seem to imply that it's not necessary.  To me, the vented filler cap doesn't seem like enough.  The Cad 500 guys say that the cover has to be drilled/tapped to add a PCV port.  What do you guys think?

Here is the moon/common version:

Is it possible that the front breather coming of out the timing cover is sufficient?  If it is, I'd be happy with eliminating the ugly plumbing to the valley pan.

Your thoughts?

The PCV system incorperates a fresh air inlet (oil filler cap) and an exhaust to the carb (valley pan hole) If you do not drill a hole and mount a sealed exh port, the acidic blow by will vent out the oil filler cap, coating your nice engine is an oily mist. Your engine will also run like crap.

What year 429 do you have?  I may have a valley pan cover for you.

Great, exactly what I needed to know.  I appreciate the info.

Thanks for the offer, but I just picked up one of the aluminum ones as shown above and already have a plan for a slick hidden hardline/PCV valve setup to feed to the carb.

Could you locate a connector at the rear of one of the valve covers to keep from messing up the aluminum finned valley pan?
