I am in the process of replacing the windsheild gaskets on my 41 6127D. I have 2 questions:

1) I currently have 3 gaskets. Pinchweld, Windshield rubber and the filler for the exterior chrome strip. Do I need this one as well? I can't figure out where it would go.

2) When replacing the pinchweld seal, do I put sealer on the rubber where it sits on the pinchweld?

Thanks

Its always advisable to use some form of sealant on the pinch weld rubber AND behind it where the channel rubber sits.  Dont make the mistake of using silicon, the fitting of a two piece screen takes some time and you will not have enough time before the silicon starts to skin over. A glazing Butyl  rubber is whats used, this never really sets.
The center rubber has to be glued or slid into your exterior chrome molding, you should also have another gasket for the inside behind the center strip in there.
Replacing these screens is not for the faint hearted. if you have never done one before you need to get well prepared and have help at hand.
I wrote an extensive piece on doing these some while back and can send you a copy if you mail me.

Steve, I am about to go through this process also, getting ready to install the glass in my 1942.

If you click on your name there is a link to all of the posts  you have made.

If you open your post about the glass installation and put in a short reply such as "Here it is  again"
and repost it then we will all have a chance at it.

I think this would be appreciated by all 40's Cadillac owners and I know I would copy it and keep the copy in my files.
