I was at a flea market the other day and found some AC 44 spark plugs. They were NOS in GM AC Delco boxes, but they were MADE IN ENGLAND. I found this very odd. Anyone ever come across these? The guy had cases of them

I've seen other GM products, including AC electrical components, made in other countries.  In fact, several years ago I bought a NOS Delco voltage regulator for my '49 Cad and noticed later that on the cover it is stamped "Made In Canada".

AC has or used to have factories in several other countries, including England.  GM makes vehicles in England, including Vauxhall cars and Bedford trucks, so it stands to reason that GM subsidiaries like AC would manufacture their products there also.  It would be interesting to know how those cases of spark plugs got across the pond to the USA.

I do see these on Ebay.
I bought a set for my 78 , that were NOS, and inside the box was a charge receipt for the plugs.
They were bought in California, and ended up in Wisconsin. They seller lived here.
I tried to find the guy from California, just to talk to him, but got the wrong guy. He found it interesting though.

I haven't checked lately, but Alcoa (Lafayette, IN) used an industrial engine that used AC44s, so I was generally able to get them over the counter at NAPA when I was still using a '41 as a daily driver in the late sixties. Maybe I ought to give them a call...

The "R" suffix was for Resistor; the "S" suffix was for extended reach.

They were licensed to GM England.  I bought a set and they are same and have the correct small 4 thin green stripes.  If you can buy them, do so.  My car is running fine on them.
