Gents,

I recently bought a very nice 1941 Cadillac coupe, 6227D, from a fellow member.  The car was lovingly restored by its former owner, with a few upgrades and tweaks.

I have been going through the car sorting out the final things to get it ready for show and tour season. One odd question on my inside door handles came up:

My driver's side inside door handle lifts UP to open the door, and my passenger side inside handle pushes DOWN to open the door. I assume one is incorrect, ie there are 2 left or right mechanisms. Do you know if it should lift up or push down?   I know my 1939 inside door handles for instance push down.

Thanks so much for the advice

Mitchell, it sounds lie something is amiss with the item called the 'door lock remote control' in the manuals.  Both handles should operate in te same direction.  Check for the right version in terms of which way it is spring loaded, and that one side is not inverted. A helpful resource is the body manual, here is a link to an online version for 1940, which should be very similar. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/fisher/1939_40/39fbsm023.htm

Let us know what you find.
