1948 Cadillac

I just purchased a 1948 Cadillac series 62 four door.  I had thought it would be an automatic  but it has a clutch pedal.  Was a 3 speed manual offered in 1948.  It also has 4 15 inch wire rims that appear to be stainless steel.  I am missing the small center caps but the rims look perfect.  Were wire rims an option in 1948. 

Car is an AZ car so has surface rust but very little serious rust.  Will be selling  the sheet metal, rear glass and bumpers but keeping the engine and drive train.

Believe the last year for the 3 speed manual transmission in Cadillacs was 1953 (automatics were an option, or maybe 3 speed manuals were an option) although some professional cars (hearses, limos) may have had it beyond that year.

It is correct that 53 was the last year for the 3 speed manual, but was only available in the 75 series and commercial chassis. Wire wheels were not an option in 1948. Wire wheels were standard on the 53 Eldorado's and were optional on all other models starting in 1953. Also available starting in 53, was stainless steel wire wheel covers.

A manual transmission was standard equipment on all Cadillac models until '49, with Hydramatic being an extra cost option. 
In spite of this, most cars had Hydramatic from '46 onwards.  Beginning in 50 Hydramatic was standard equipment on Series 60 and 62.  Beginning in 52 Hydramatic was standard equipment on all models except Series 75 (limos) and 86 (hearses, ambulances, etc.).  Nonetheless, the factory still accepted special orders for a manual transmission on any car, though in '53, the last year for stick shift, there were less than 20 such SOs.  From '54 Hydramatic was standard on all Cadillac model and a manual transmission was no longer offered, Cimarrons excepted, until the CTS in the 2000s.
