Hi everybody,

just bought a 76 Eldo with 889 miles and original window sticker still in place. Any ideas how to take it off without destroying it? It comes loose easily around the edges where it's only fixed with tape, but in the middle it's glued to the glass...

Use either a kitchen sponge or any sponge for that matter, soak with boiling water and place behind the window sticker. Will soften the original adhesive glue to a point where it should come off easily and preserve the original sticker. (Obviously be careful with the boiling water), several applications may be needed to soften enough to remove.

I should have asked first- Is the sticker paper in the middle?
May have to carefully use a hair dryer for a while if hot water would degrade it.

Before delivery in the dealership, we sprayed the sticker until it was totally saturated.  After letting it sit for a few minutes, it should peal off in its entirety.  Some are more stubborn than others, then spray some more.

I worked with a Cadillac dealer back in those days--just spray liberally with warm water and it will release the adhesive. wait until it is saturated and peel very carefully. B.Norman

During my days in the Cadillac store we would use the GM foam window cleaner.

Thanks for your advises. Are you sure about the water? The sticker is thin paper...

Put the windows down, lay the top back and drive. Then you won't have to see the sticker.

Congrats on your purchase!

Any photos of the car to share?

My only advice is to take a HIGH resolution digital photo of the window sticker while still on the window.  Use a tri-pod as well.  At least this way in case it gets really distorted upon removal you can simply have a new one printed up from the color digital image and it will look exactly like new

You may want to try a small fabric steamer. They work well for removing window tint. Wal Mart has some inexpensive ones.

Before I would attempt to use water on a 37 year old document I would use a hair dryer on the OUTSIDE of the glass to soften the adhesive. You may need to repeat this process several times. This is undoubtedly a very delicate piece of the cars original history. I would also keep a keen eye for any discoloration from the use of heat. Go slow and be patient. After successfully removing I would consider having this document laminated.
Hope this helps.
