I want to check slop in timing chain on '74 Eldo.
What is a good easy way to do this and what tools to use?
Thanks

Quick check is to remove the distributor cap, just swing it out of the way with all or most of the wires attached.  You then rock the engine back and fourth by hand observing the rotor and how long it takes to change direction.  Most engines from this era had a bolt in the center of the crank pulley you could but a socket wrench on but Cadillac did not have those from the factory so it makes it a little more difficult.   Putting a bolt in is one option but its not a size you find at a decent hardware store, its more of a industrial hardware sort of item.  The washer needed is also not quite typical.

Something like this around the crank pulley may work or if you take out the spark plugs you may be able to move it yanking on the belts and pulleys.
