Rewiring the interior.  How do I get the cigar lighters out?

What is your goal in getting them out?  Are they not working or are you trying to eliminate them entirely?

To make them inoperarable, the ground is always there, so you would want to take the "hot" lead off (the only wire to them) and tape it off so it doesn't short against the body.

Still not sure as to why?

I they are stuck in the socket, soak them in penetrating oil.
